Last Hurrahs

We had such a beautiful weekend.

Beautiful weekend.
Family flew in from the East Coast. Our home as been full of friends and awesomeness as we celebrated our new man. (It was windy! Plenty of beautiful pictures to come.)

This morning the last of our family members flew home …it’s just a sad feeling, isn’t it? I hate it when they leave especially after such a fun 6 days.

We’ve been trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible–one more dinner, one more sleep over, one more time with all of us together so we can hear each other laugh. (I swear, my family has the best laughs!)

My mom says I have always been like this and it drove her crazy when I was kid. She calls them “add-ons.” I can still hear her saying, “Lindsey! No add-ons.” Ha! I guess that lesson didn’t stick. But I am sure EVERY other one did.

Last night was no exception; I managed to convince my middle brother and his wife and my youngest brother to say over night with us before their plane left early this morning. Sure, I told them it was because we live so much closer to the airport. Sure, I told them they could get an extra hour of sleep. But really? Really, I just wanted one last hurrah together before our lives went back to the normal routine.

They totally bought it.

We ended up at a family favorite burger joint, toasting each other’s awesomeness and accomplishments with our frosty root beer float mugs.

Root beer floats and burgers with my brothers. It's a tradition. #wheatleyshavemorefun

It’s kind of a tradition. They are so much fun.

Then, we piled all 8 of us back into my minivan and drove home. The longest ride home from downtown OF. MY. LIFE.

I was in the third row of seats (the “waaaay back”) sitting next to my 6 year old who was sitting between me and my 4 year old–one in a car seat, the other in a booster.

One may think it was the longest ride home of my life because it was cramped. NOT SO. Plenty of booty, leg and foot room.

Honda lover for life.
It’s just that my kids have been in party mode for the last week and bugging each other to the point of screaming and bawling seems to be how they like to end a week of festivities. I, personally, think root beer floats are way more fun …but to each his own.

One was screaming at the other because of how a straw sword fight went down. Then there was the “stop looking out my window” episode, a mint sharing disaster, arms and legs flying all over the place and, randomly, a red straw full of hand-sanitizer. My job was ref. It was brutal.

At the next last hurrah add-on, I am sitting my bootie between them …and getting us all a root beer float for the road.

Cheers!
